Established in 2010 to collaborate with YMCAs across the United States and Canada in supporting healthy living initiatives. Precor Cares supports programs to improve the health and well-being of children, families and adults. Grants from the Precor Cares program will be available for YMCAs to support their Healthy Living Initiatives. Approximately 150 grants totaling up to $500,000 are awarded annually. The video shows how Precor is helping the YMCA to deliver the LIVESTRONG program for cancer survivors.

Objectives

Precor Cares supports programs to improve the health and well-being of children, families and adults.

Why is this project important?

We believe that lasting personal and social change can only come about when we all work together to invest in our kids, our health, our neighbors and our community.

Project results

Here is an example of one of the project Precor cares supported.

Precor Care funding was used to deliver 24 sessions of LIVESTRONG at the YMCA of the Suncoast. LIVESTRONG is a twelve-week, small group program designed for adult cancer survivors. Funds were also used to train additional staff to allow the programme to be delivered to more cancer survivors. By the end of 2011, 144 cancer survivors participate in the program.

All participants who completed the 12 week program showed improvement in measured areas of balance, strength and flexibility.

Gymtopia Comment

Precor demonstrates that the company’s purpose goes beyond the act of simply manufacturing and supplying fitness equipment. The YMCA is in the business of ‘strengthening communities’, while Precor’s mission is to improve lives, so they share a common interest.

This is a large-scale project spanning two countries, but any gym or supplier can start a project that fits their size and capabilities.
