The Scott Dennis 44 Fund is a foundation that honors the memory of Scott Dennis who after a college football career and time as a strength coach, represented leading commercial fitness equipment brands including Precor, Cybex and StairMaster. An inaugural event held on June 7th 2013 raised $140,000 for suicide prevention and counseling.

How did it start?

Following Scott’s death by suicide in late 2012, close friends created the foundation to honor his legacy and generate financial support, counseling, education and advocacy for suicide prevention and counseling organizations.

Why is this project important?

The Scott Dennis 44 Fund is dedicated to suicide prevention and healing the victims of parental suicide through research, education and advocacy. The Fund will also provide scholarships and financial aid to children directly effected by parental suicide. With your help we can empower young people to make positive decisions in their lives through:

• Awareness.
• Education.
• Counseling.
• Prevention.
• Financial aid.

Project results

The Foundation’s inaugural event raised $140,000 for suicide prevention and counseling. Kidzcope, a Texas-based grief center for children and families who have lost a loved one through death, was the event’s principal beneficiary receiving a $20,000 donation from the Scott Dennis 44 Fund. These funds will be used to support the programs that Kidzcope provides to families at no cost, to help children through the grief process.

Gymtopia Comment

Although a sad story, considerable good will emerge from Scott’s foundation. Many companies connected to the health and fitness industry including Commercial Fitness Concepts, Cybex, HealthZone, Genesis Health Clubs, Life Fitness, Matrix, Precor, Sportsmith, Star Trac as well as StairMaster are now backing the Foundation which means more families can be supported as they grieve for their loved ones.
